Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the skin irritation test of a natural herbal extract, Samhwang-Sasimtang, using KeraSkin¢â, a new in vitro reconstructed human epidermis model. Trans-epithelial Electrical Resistance (TER) value measurement, optical density value, and cell viability of positive control were conducted for intra-laboratory quality control examination. Every TER value, negative control, and cell viability of positive control result were suitable for the criteria of quality control. After conducting primary skin irritation using KeraSkin¢â, Samhwang-sasimtang extract (SSE, 1%, 2%) showed more than 50% of cell viability in MTT assay, indicating SSE showed no skin irritation. These results indicate that SSE may be effective natural agent in case used for various functional ingredients.
